Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 3 November 2026
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Tapio website at www.tapiopay.com, the Tapio guest payment pages reached by scanning a Tapio QR code, and the Tapio restaurant dashboard (together, the "Services"). By using the Services you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

2. The Services
Tapio is a restaurant technology platform. It allows:
- Guests to scan a table QR code, view their itemised bill in real time, split the bill, add an optional tip and pay digitally from their phone.
- Restaurants ("Merchants") to manage their digital menu, receive instant payment confirmations on the Tapio dashboard, have tables closed automatically in their POS, and view payment reports.
Tapio is a software provider, not a bank or a payment service provider. All card and wallet payments made through Tapio are processed by our licensed payment partner, Paymob, on behalf of the restaurant. Funds are settled to the restaurant according to its agreement with Tapio and Paymob. Tapio does not hold guest funds.
3. Who you are buying from
When a guest pays a bill through Tapio, the guest is paying the restaurant for the food, drinks and services the restaurant provided. The restaurant is the seller and is responsible for its menu, prices, taxes, service charges, the quality of its food and service, and for any refund decision. Tapio provides the technology that displays the bill and passes the payment to the payment partner.
4. Guest payments
- The amount shown on the Tapio payment page is taken from the restaurant's POS at the time you open it. Please check your bill before paying.
- All amounts are shown and charged in Egyptian Pounds (EGP), including applicable VAT and service charge as set by the restaurant.
- Accepted payment methods may include Visa, Mastercard, Meeza, Apple Pay, Google Pay and mobile wallets, depending on availability at each restaurant.
- Tips are optional. A tip you add is passed to the restaurant for its staff.
- When you split a bill, each guest pays only their selected share. The table closes once the full bill is paid.
- After a successful payment you will see a confirmation screen and, if you provide an email or phone number, a digital receipt.
- Guests are not charged any Tapio fee unless a fee is clearly displayed on the payment page before you pay.
5. Merchant accounts
- Restaurants must provide accurate business, banking and identification information, and keep it up to date.
- Restaurants are responsible for keeping dashboard login details confidential and for all activity under their account.
- Restaurants must comply with all applicable Egyptian laws, including consumer protection, tax and food-safety rules.
- Fees for restaurants are described on our Pricing page and in the Merchant's signed agreement. Where the signed agreement and these Terms conflict, the signed agreement prevails.
6. Subscriptions and trials
Restaurants choose a Tapio plan on our Pricing page and send us a plan request. No payment is taken on the website. Our team contacts the restaurant within 1 business day to confirm the plan. For subscriptions, Tapio is the seller.
- Plans and prices: Starter EGP 999/month + 1% per transaction; Growth EGP 1,999/month + 0.75% per transaction; Pro EGP 3,499/month + 0.5% per transaction. All prices are in Egyptian Pounds (EGP) and include 14% VAT. The price of your chosen plan is shown before you send your request and on every invoice.
- 1-month trial: new restaurants may start any plan with a 30-day trial for EGP 499 (one trial per restaurant). The plan's transaction fee applies during the trial.
- Invoices and payment: after we confirm your plan, we send you an invoice by email. Invoices are paid by card or wallet through a secure Paymob payment link, or by bank transfer. Your subscription starts when your first invoice is paid, and your dashboard is activated within 1 business day.
- Billing period: each subscription period is 30 days. 3 days before a period ends, we send you an invoice for the next period. Your subscription continues when that invoice is paid.
- Cancelling: you can cancel at any time by email or phone, or simply by not paying the next invoice. Service continues until the end of the period you have paid for. There is no cancellation fee and no long-term contract.
- Transaction fees are calculated on each guest payment made through Tapio and deducted before settlement to your bank account.
- Price changes: we will give at least 30 days' notice of any price change; it applies from your next billing period.
- We may refuse or cancel a subscription order if a price was shown in error; in that case you receive a full refund.
7. Refunds and disputes
Refunds are covered by our Refund & Cancellation Policy. In short: for guest bills, refund requests are decided by the restaurant and processed by Tapio through Paymob back to the original payment method; for subscriptions and trials, Tapio decides and refunds directly.
8. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the Services for any unlawful, fraudulent or unauthorised purpose;
- use stolen or unauthorised cards or payment credentials;
- attempt to interfere with, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the Services;
- tamper with, copy or replace Tapio QR codes;
- upload harmful code or content that infringes others' rights.
We may suspend access to the Services if we reasonably suspect misuse or fraud.
9. Intellectual property
The Tapio name, logo, software, designs and content are owned by Tapio Payment Solutions S.A.E. and protected by law. Restaurants keep ownership of their menus, logos and content, and grant Tapio a licence to display them as needed to provide the Services.
10. Third-party services
The Services rely on third parties, including Paymob for payment processing, POS providers for bill data, and hosting providers. Their services are subject to their own terms. Tapio is not responsible for outages or errors caused by third parties, but we will work with them to resolve issues promptly.
11. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the Services available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. We may update, improve or change features. If a payment fails because of a technical issue, no amount is charged; if you are charged but the payment shows as failed, contact us and we will resolve it (see our Refund Policy).
12. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Egyptian law:
- Tapio is not liable for the food, drinks or services provided by restaurants;
- Tapio is not liable for indirect or consequential losses;
- Tapio's total liability to a guest in connection with any transaction is limited to the amount of that transaction;
- Tapio's total liability to a restaurant is limited to the fees the restaurant paid to Tapio in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under Egyptian Consumer Protection Law No. 181 of 2018.
13. Termination
Guests may stop using the Services at any time. Restaurants may cancel their subscription at any time as described in section 6. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms, fraud, or where required by law or by our payment partner.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt. We encourage you to contact us first so we can resolve any issue amicably. Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when they were last changed. Continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the new Terms.
